Measure step by step
The two outer ends of a trimpot give the total resistance, and the middle terminal (the wiper) gives the part that changes with the adjustment screw. First measure the total, then turn the screw and measure the two ends. On a multi-turn trimpot you may hear a click when the screw reaches its limit.
