Hold the probe and drag it to the tip of a leg. Tapping works too: first pick the probe, then the leg.

Set the range to Ω (resistance).

Measure step by step

The resistance of an NTC thermistor drops as it heats up; it has no direction. First measure it at room temperature, then hold it between your fingers to warm it and watch the drop.
